Dr Paulette Bynoe is a Senior Lecturer, the former Dean of the Faculty of Earth and Environmental Sciences, and the current Deputy Dean of the School of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Guyana. She holds a PhD in Geography (University of Sussex, UK), an MPhil in Environmental Education (University of Bradford, UK), and a BA in Geography (University of Guyana). She has successfully completed several certificate courses, including the economics of climate change, disaster management, social marketing, environmental management, and environmental and social impact assessment.
As an interdisciplinary trained Environmental Specialist with approximately 24 years of experience, Dr Bynoe has taught/teaches several environmentally oriented courses, including community-based disaster risk management, environmental impact assessment, environmental research methods, and environmental resources policy. Her research interests relate to human-environment interactions, focusing on environmental resources management and policy interventions, sustainable livelihoods, climate change and disaster vulnerability and resilience. In 2015, she received the national award “Golden Arrow of Achievement” for contributing to environmental education and training, research, and the development of policies on natural resources management.
Dr Bynoe currently serves in various capacities, including Member of the Amazon Science Panel, Steering Committee Member of the Global Water Partnership (GWP), and Chair of the Kyoto Protocol Compliance Committee –Enforcement Branch under the UNFCCC.
