Maro Mantziara

Maro Mantziara was born and raised in Athens, Greece. She is a professional translator with a BA in Interpreting from Ionian University, Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting (Corfu, Greece). Maro also holds a MA in Human and Social Sciences with a focus on inter-Mediterranean migrations and international cooperation (Erasmus Mundus) from Università Ca’​ Foscari Venezia, Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Université Paul Valéry – Montpellier III. She has studied and lived in Greece, Spain, Italy, Tunisia, France, and Belgium.

Maro is an environmental migration researcher and professional; she has conducted fieldwork research in Greece focusing on the Bangladeshi community in Athens for her master thesis discussing the concept of environmental refugees as well as in Tunisia discussing the socio-economic marginalisation of Sub-Saharan migrants in the country.

Maro cares about environmental and social justice, refugee rights, climate change and sustainability. She has interned at Municipal Waste Europe and FOGGS in 2019 and is now Associate Editor at Katoikos.world.
