Larry D. Johnson

Larry D. Johnson is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Columbia Law School where he teaches a seminar on “United Nations Law and Practice” and manages an extern program in which law students work in UN-related offices.  He also teaches a similar seminar at the Vienna Diplomatic Academy in Austria.

He has had a legal career in the UN system of nearly 35 years holding various positions such as Assistant Secretary-General for Legal Affairs at Headquarters, Legal Adviser of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna and Chef de Cabinet of the President of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague.  He also served in the peacekeeping operation in the former Yugoslavia and on boards of inquiry concerning Gaza and the Central African Republic.  He has been engaged as a consultant by the UN and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

Professor Johnson has also taught at the University of California Davis School of Law, in NYU’s Global Studies Program and at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He is a graduate of the University of Nebraska (B.A.) and of Harvard University (J.D. and M.P.A.).
